Bengaluru, India | April 2026 : The iconic Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has officially been acquired by a consortium of four prominent investors, marking a significant transition in the team’s ownership and the beginning of a new era for one of cricket’s most celebrated teams.
The consortium comprises leading global and Indian organizations, including Aditya Birla Group, Times Group, Blackstone, and Bolt Ventures. The deal, valued at approximately $1.78 billion, is among the largest franchise transactions in IPL history.
This acquisition brings to a close RCB’s long-standing ownership under United Spirits, a subsidiary of global beverage leader Diageo, which has managed the franchise since 2016.
Joint Ownership Structure
The four entities will jointly own and operate the franchise under a unified structure, ensuring strategic collaboration in decision-making, investment, and long-term growth. Contrary to widespread speculation, the team has not been divided among separate owners but will function under a single consortium leadership.
Strategic Vision and Future Growth
The new ownership group aims to strengthen RCB’s position both on and off the field by:
- Enhancing financial investment and operational capabilities
- Expanding global brand presence and digital engagement
- Building a consistent, championship-winning team
RCB will continue to be based in Bengaluru and play its home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, with no immediate changes to its core identity or fan engagement strategy.
A New Chapter for RCB
With a legacy built on passionate fan support and cricketing excellence, RCB enters this new phase with renewed ambition and strategic backing. The consortium’s combined expertise across industries is expected to elevate the franchise to new heights in the coming years.
