For Ramani Iyer, entrepreneurship was never a career choice; it was a way of life.
Long before startups became fashionable and venture capital became mainstream in India, Ramani embarked on his entrepreneurial journey in his early twenties. While pursuing hotel management, he identified a simple yet meaningful market gap—office-goers who struggled to find hygienic, home-cooked meals during working hours.
With little capital but immense conviction, he launched Kter's, a lunch delivery service that supplied freshly prepared homemade meals to working professionals. The venture quickly gained acceptance and became profitable within months. Although partnership differences eventually led to his exit, the experience taught him one of the most valuable lessons of entrepreneurship: success is not merely about building a business, but about building the right partnerships and creating sustainable systems.
Rather than viewing this as a setback, Ramani treated it as his first entrepreneurial classroom.
The years that followed became an intensive learning journey. Ramani worked across multiple industries, gaining hands-on experience in sales, marketing, distribution, customer acquisition, and business development. These experiences would later prove invaluable when he became part of one of India's most transformative entrepreneurial stories.
A defining milestone came when Ramani joined hands with his elder brother in an entrepreneurial venture that evolved into Justdial Ltd. Over the next 26 years, he played a significant role in building the company into one of India's most recognized digital businesses. Justdial's successful listing on the Indian stock exchanges in 2013 marked a defining chapter in India's internet entrepreneurship journey.
Following his successful tenure at Justdial, Ramani chose to dedicate his experience to building and mentoring new-age businesses. His entrepreneurial interests span manufacturing, artificial intelligence, electric mobility, consumer technology, infrastructure, healthcare, and enterprise solutions.
Among the ventures he has built and nurtured are Just Connect Electricals Pvt. Ltd., Spykke Innovations Pvt. Ltd., Enumerati Solutions LLP, InGo Electric, and Elephantgod Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., each reflecting his passion for solving real-world problems through innovation.
Recognizing that many startups fail because of weak execution rather than weak ideas, Ramani founded Elephantgod Accelerator. The accelerator focuses on investment readiness, business strategy, governance, financial discipline, branding, fundraising, and leadership development, helping founders build scalable and sustainable businesses.
He also envisioned India Startup Week as a platform where founders, investors, corporates, policymakers, and ecosystem enablers could collaborate, learn, and create meaningful partnerships that accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship in India.
Ramani firmly believes that while ideas and funding are important, long-term success is built on integrity, disciplined execution, customer focus, financial prudence, and resilience. These values continue to define his leadership philosophy.
Today, Ramani Iyer continues to inspire entrepreneurs as a founder, investor, mentor, and ecosystem builder. From delivering lunch boxes as a young entrepreneur to co-building one of India's pioneering internet companies and now empowering the next generation of founders, his journey stands as a testament to perseverance, innovation, and purpose-driven leadership.
