San Francisco: A famous Waldorf school located barely three kilometres from Google’s headquarters has completely banned phones. The school’s annual fee can be as high as ₹40 lakh, and it is attended by the children of some of Silicon Valley’s top tech executives and AI researchers. The school’s philosophy is simple: no phone means no distraction, no comparison, and a more authentic childhood. Instead of machine-driven learning, the school focuses on developing independent thinking and clear vision.

Ironically, while technology companies have deliberately designed algorithms that have made children and teenagers addicted to screens, the very executives who created this digital ecosystem maintain strict limits on technology in their own homes.

While gadgets have become a source of entertainment and childcare for ordinary families, the homes of tech executives place much greater importance on simplicity, boredom, and real-life experiences rather than the digital world.

When Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote an open letter after the birth of his second daughter, he did not even mention the digital world. Instead, he advised his daughter to play outdoors, enjoy the fragrance of flowers, and collect leaves.

Peter Thiel, an early investor in Facebook, revealed that his children are allowed only about one and a half hours of screen time per week.

Meanwhile, *Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel* does not allow his two-year-old son any screen time at all. For his older children, screen time is limited to 90 minutes a week.

Staying away from television has helped many of these children develop reading habits, creative thinking, and the ability to innovate. This is also true of several other technology giants.

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates did not give his children mobile phones before the age of 14. Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s son did not get a phone until he was 11, while *Apple CEO Tim Cook* advocates keeping his nephew and other children in the family away from social media.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also sets strict rules and limits regarding the amount of time children in his family spend on screens and computers.
